Brittni's Broken Arm

2008 was a big year for us, 4 broken bones can get very expensive when you don't have insurance. Danny broke 2 in his leg and Brittni broke 2 in her arm. WOW!!!
I didn't want Brittni to feel left out so I'm writing the story of her broken arm.
Daniel took Brittni and Caleb to 5 Mile to ride 4 wheelers. I took Josh, Danny, and Sara to Aunt Jessica's to make a Halloween costume. They took 3 bikes, but one wouldn't work. Caleb got on with Daniel and Brittni rode her own. When it was time to go back to the car, Brittni hit a dip. The force of her against the handlebars broke her arm. She was very brave and got on with Daniel and Caleb rode the other bike. By then it was starting to get dark and they got lost. The only light they had was on the front of Daniel's bike. They said a prayer for Brittni and to help them find their way. Brittni saw some headlights from a car and they went toward them. The people in the car told them what road they were on and Daniel found the car from there.
Meanwhile, I was getting very worried because Daniel wasn't answering his phone, it was dark, and I felt that something was wrong. He finally called me while he was loading the bikes and asked me to meet him at his mom's house. Grandma Jackson kept the boys and we took Sara with us to the hospital. We first stopped at home so our Home Teacher could help Daniel give Brittni a blessing. In the Emergency Room they gave Brittni morphin and she was so funny. They also took x-rays and I got to watch. It was very obvious that the radius was broken, but the Dr. had to show me the break on the ulna. They called it a green stick fracture. Children's bones are flexible because they are growing so fast, so the bone will break partway through...just like a green stick. The Dr. that set her bone was very good and very discrete. Daniel was talking so much, he didn't even notice until it was done. Once her bone was set, Brittni had very little pain and she adjusted very well. She wore a soft cast for a week and a hard pink cast for about 4 weeks. Her cast came off Halloween morning and she had a picture with the Dr. because they were all wearing costumes.
It was a very good experience for our family because it strengthened our testimonies of the power of prayer and the power of preisthood blessings. We are very grateful to our Heavenly Father for hearing and answering our prayers.

Danny's broken leg!

In April Danny lost the Battle of the lightsabers with Sara....really it was a trampoline. I feel like I've told this story a hundred times, but Danny will see the Dr. again in a couple weeks so I thought it would be a good time to put the story on. Danny was at his friend's house enjoying the day in the backyard. Unfortunately while they were jumping, Danny was bounced by a child about twice his size (which by way is the reason for most trampoline accidents, who knew). when Danny landed he twisted his ankle...it broke. It was very swollen by the time I got to him a few minutes after it happened so I knew it was broken, just didn't know how bad. First, I took him to the Dr. office and they sent me to the ER, who called in an Orthopedic Surgeon, who sent me to Primary Children's Medical Center. Luckily my Dad was in Salt Lake that night and met us there to give him a blessing. Daniel and Danny stayed over night at the hospital and I took Sara home so I could get the other kids to school in the morning. Danny had surgery the next day. He had a type IV growth plate fracture of the distal tibia, he also fractured his fibula above the growth plate. Danny was in a soft cast for a week and a hard cast for 3 weeks. It should have been 4, but he was having problems. He was in a walking boot for about 5 or 6 weeks, then he walked with his foot turned out for quite a while. I t was about 2 months after the boot was off when I didn't notice the limp when he ran. He's doing really great now, but we have to do follow-up x-rays every few months to make sure both legs are growing at the same rate. Fun times. His Dr. told us if there were no problems by 18 months out, we would most likely be ok . We are very grateful to the many doctors, hospital staff, friends and family who have helped us throughout this ordeal. Something funny about Danny, after he got everything off, he refused to go without a sock on his broken leg. He wore his sandels everywhere with one sock. It was quite funny. Also his leg was a total peg leg, the muscle had atrophied so bad.

Cross Country Skiing Scout Campout

Josh and I had a blast on our Campout of firsts! My 1st as a 11 year old Scout leader. Josh's 1st Scout campout. And our 1st Scout camp together! It was a blast, although we did get a little cold sleeping out under the stars in the snow and the food was o.k for campfire cooking! LOL! Just ignore the pics of the motel rooms and the restaurant! Scout camping at it's best. Oh and we went polar bear swimming too! Uh in the indoor pool at Ruby's Inn. The view from the rim of Bryce Canyon was awesome! Definately a fun ski trip. Oh and also our 1st try at cross-country skiing. Back in November Josh earned his Webelos rank & also received his Arrow of Light. We are very proud of his hard work. He is now a Boy Scout and is working on his Tenderfoot rank.

Daniel and the kids had a great time on the Polar Express. There were 3 sleds hooked up to one 4 wheeler and half the neighbor. Good times!!!
Ok, I've taken the leap and started a blog. I really have no idea what I am doing, but here goes!!!
